The real White House butler: Eugene Allen

White house butler

Starting out his 34-year (1952 to 1986) career as a “pantry man,” Allen worked at the White House during eight presidential terms from Truman to Reagan. Over time, he was promoted to butler and then to Maître d’hôtel, the most prestigious rank of butlers serving in the White House.
