Eugene or “Gene” as President Truman called him, maintained a close relationship with Allen. President Ford enjoyed Eugene’s golf talk more than anything, and his relationship with Nancy Reagan bought him an invitation to a state dinner for German Chancellor Helmut Kohl. It’s been told that Gene also had a close relationship with the Kennedy’s and was heartbroken over the President’s assasination.
