Before Allen passed away in Washington on March 31, 2010, at the age of 90 from kidney failure, he had the opportunity to attend the Inauguration of President Barack Obama. Allen is survived by his son, Charles Allen, daughter in law Ortaciana, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
