Chicago resident Jennifer Fitzgerald can sleep a little easier tonight. The 31-year-old single mother, who owes $105,761.80 in parking tickets and fines to the windy city, has worked out quite the deal with the courts.
In Fitzgerald’s initial lawsuit which was dismissed in August of this year, Fitzgerald claimed that her ex-boyfriend, Brandon Preveau, left her purple 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, registered in her name, in an employee lot at O’Hare International Airport for three years.
According to the lawsuit, Preveau bought the car from her uncle as transportation to his then job at O’Hare International Airport. Fitzgerald claims that she did not have access to the car as it was parked in the employee lot and had previously given her spare keys to Preveau as he had misplaced his.
Aside from the general parking tickets, which were first cited on Nov. 17, 2009, her 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo received seven separate parking tickets for violations ranging from expired plates and registration to not having the proper city sticker to parking a vehicle in a city-owned lot for more than 30 days.
Fitzgerald was also ticketed multiple times for improperly tinted windows cracked or missing windows and broken lamps. The car was then towed a whopping three years later in October 2012. Altogether, 678 tickets were issued to Fitzgerald due to her ex-boyfriend’s neglect.
Fortunately for Fitzgerald, the city, Preveau and herself have come to an agreement in order to settle her overwhelming debt. According to reports, Fitzgerald will pay less than $4,500 over the next three years in installments of $78 a month towards the $105,761.80 she owes the city of Chicago and Preveau will pay the down payment, totaling $1,600.
