Around the same time as her chief rival Spears was going from coy schoolgirl to sex kitten, Aguilera attempted a similar image makeover. The singer debuted her new persona “Xtina,” in 2001, complete with a racy video for her single “Dirrty.” The public didn’t respond well to the new Aguilera and her sophomore album, despite performing well, sold half as many units as her debut.
