What an insensitive comment! Boston Mayor Thomas Menino recently made a very tacky comment regarding Detroit, currently in a financial crisis, during an interview with New York Times Magazine. The reporter asked him what he would do in Detroit following an obviously backhanded comment.
Reporter: If you could live in any other major U.S. city other than Boston, where would you live?
Menino: I never thought of living anyplace else but Boston. Baltimore’s a nice little city. Detroit is a place I’d love to go.
Reporter: What would you do in Detroit?
Menino: I’d blow up the place and start all over.
To add insult to injury, he continues saying the problem is “inaction … leadership.”
Bing fires back saying, “It is extremely regrettable that Boston Mayor Thomas Menino used such an unfortunate choice of words to describe what he would do if he came to Detroit. I would think the mayor of a city that recently experienced a deadly bombing attack would be more sensitive and not use the phrase `blow up.'”
Bing is referring to the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15, 2013 where three people were killed and 264 people were injured after two pressure cooker bombs were detonated near the finish line.
