Cellphones are a major part of everyone’s life, however, went to extreme measures after forgetting his cellphone on the platform bench at a West Palm Beach Tri-Rail train station.
Eddie Diaz, 26, died St. Mary’s Medical Center where he was taken after sustaining head injuries when he jumped from a moving train onto the wet platform to retrieve his cellphone.
Diaz broke the glass of the emergency safety mechanism, pulled the emergency stop lever and exited through the front passenger door.
A witness explained to police that Diaz was bleeding profusely from his head and nose after jumping and slipping on the wet concrete. The woman, who studied sports medicine, said Diaz “was not able to talk but I asked him if he was able to blink or move his mouth and he was able to move his mouth for me.”
Surveillance cameras caught images of Diaz breaking the glass and prying open the doors just before jumping off the train onto the slippery platform.
