Leigh Bush interview

If you’re looking for songster Sammie you might struggle to find him, but if you’re looking for sophisticated crooner Leigh Bush you’re in luck. The soul chanteuse has a new moniker and sophisticated new EP but the same sound fans who’ve followed his journey have come to know and love.

With singles titled “Dancer”, “Free Fallin” and “Passionately”, this lothario offers fans an introduction to Leigh Bush and invites them to listen to the aptly titled The Leigh Bush Project.

Why did you decide to change your name?

For those who don’t know Leigh is actually my middle name, Bush is my last name so it was a natural transition, something that wasn’t forced. Along with the name there’s new music, content, styling and imagery, I felt it was time to mature. I’m 26 so my musical content is substantially different than the Sammie records.

What’s been the reception to the new name?

It’s been amazing. I like how we did it, we didn’t make a big announcement. Some fans who are very in tune to government understood that it was a part of me. It also created this mystique too, a lot of people didn’t know what was going on.

How does your new style compare to that of Sammie’s?

It’s very GQ. With a lot of R&B artists today they get a little swindled by the hip-hop influence and that’s cool. I think hip-hop will always be one of the most dominant genres but I like style. I like to be dressed up, clean cut, presentable and gentleman-like. I think that’s a good balance when you can put the rugged with the “pretty boy.” Shout out to my stylist King Troy for keeping that look fresh and new.

What is it about The Leigh Bush Project that has made it successful thus far?

That we went in with no rules. We just let it rock, we didn’t’ target radio we just created great, timeless music.

Ultimately what do you want fans to know about Leigh Bush?

That I’m not putting Sammie to rest and I’m very proud of what I’ve done thus far in my career with 1.2 million records sold. I had the pleasure of being a part of “Kiss Me Through The Phone” with Soulja Boy and last year I co-wrote “Next Breath” with Tank, so as Sammie I’m very proud of what I’ve accomplished and Leigh Bush is just an extension of myself.
