If there’s one combination in Hollywood that doesn’t go well together it’s Alec Baldwin and the paparazzi, and it doesn’t help that Baldwin has a bad habit of spouting off inappropriate comments when he’s around the paps. Unfortunately, last week the world got a bad combo pack of all of that negativity when Baldwin had a run-in with paparazzi and reportedly yelled out an anti-gay slur. Now, after days of controversy and backlash, Baldwin seems to be paying the piper for his infamous outburst.
According to Huffington Post, the trouble all began last week when the paparazzi swarmed the MSNBC host outside of his New York City apartment. Enraged Baldwin yelled out what many believed to be “c—sucking f–.” However, after the incident made headlines, Baldwin quickly asserted that he said “fathead” and not “f–.”
For days afterwards, MSNBC failed to comment on the matter and received heated criticism from angry fans. Recently the news network finally opened up about the controversy and revealed that they have suspended Baldwin for two weeks over the incident. Baldwin has since released a statement on the matter, apologizing for his actions.
“I would like to address the comments I made this past week. I did not intend to hurt or offend anyone with my choice of words, but clearly, I have – and for that, I am deeply sorry. Words are important. I understand that, and will choose mine with great care going forward. What I said and did this week, as I was trying to protect my family, was offensive and unacceptable. Behavior like this undermines hard-fought rights that I vigorously support. I understand “Up Late” will be taken off the schedule for tonight and next week,” he wrote.
“I want to apologize to my loyal fans and to my colleagues at MSNBC – both for my actions and for distracting from their good work. Again, please accept my apology,” Baldwin said.
