No other moment on Sunday night’s episode of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” was more embarrassing than when Porsha Williams mistakenly claimed that the Underground Railroad was an actual underground rail system that slaves rode to freedom. Not surprisingly, the rest of her cast mates (and the rest of America) let out a collective sigh of embarrassment over her ignorance. But Williams’ “RHOA” enemy, Kenya Moore, did more than just sigh. She recently wrote a blog post about the incident and slammed Williams for embarrassing her family.
In the post, Moore writes that she was angered by Williams’ comments and claims that the younger “RHOA” star is an embarrassment to the legacy of her late grandfather, civil rights activist Hosea Williams.
“When Porsha was perplexed at how the train operated or ‘who went down there first to make room because they didn’t have electric trains like we do now,’ I became incensed. Her late grandfather, Hosea Williams, was a prominent civil rights activist in Atlanta. It was crystal clear that Porsha did not know that the Underground Railroad was not a literal train!” Moore wrote.
“Porsha is an embarrassment to her grandfather, his legacy, her family, and most importantly, herself,” she added.
However, Moore claims that Williams shouldn’t shoulder all of the blame for her ignorance. Moore, instead, claims that society at large has failed in properly educating Williams about her history.
“It’s easy to laugh and call her dumb, but the reality is even more painful — we have failed her,” Moore wrote. “Our educational system has failed her, anyone who coddled her or encouraged her to focus on her makeup, weave, and shoes to find a man to take care of her rather than her education has failed her. Anyone laughing at this gross ignorance has failed her.”
Well, somehow we doubt that the other “RHOA” ladies feel any kind of responsibility for Williams’ lack of knowledge about a subject that was likely a regular part of conversations in the Williams’ household – and in classrooms, and museums, and movies, and music, and just about every other medium in American culture.
