Cash Money Records looks to start sports management agency

Looks like powerhouse New Orleans based label Cash Money will be the latest music label to began an offshoot sports agency.

In what looks to be a similar set up as Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports, Cash Money has reportedly trademarked the name Visionaire Sports Group and plans to open shop sometime in 2014.

To further indicate their plans, Cash Money has already aligned their Visionaire Sports Group with Mississippi based agency Pay 2 Win Sports, Inc.

While it is still unclear if any members of the Cash Money crew have taken the necessary tests to gain their sports agent certification, such formalities won’t alter their plans as they can simply hire a seasoned agent that already has certification.

One thing is for sure: sports agencies seem to be the new horizon for hip-hop based labels much like clothing lines were in the 90’s. Jay Z has made great strides with his Roc Nation agency with clients such as baseball star Robinson Cano and WNBA baller Skylar Diggins. And though Jay Z has certainly made his mark in the sports world, trailblazing credit must be given to Master P as he became the first rap mogul turned sports agent when he represented star NFL running back Ricky Williams in 1999.
