James Avery suffered from several illnesses before death

New Year’s Day brougt news of the untimely death of beloved TV star James Avery, who played Uncle Phil on the TV classic “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” Though many were shocked by his sudden death during open heart surgery, a new report reveals that Avery suffered from a number of illnesses long before he died.

According to TMZ, Avery’s listed cause of death is cardiorespiratory arrest, but Avery’s death certificate, which was released this week, shows that he also suffered from coronary heart disease, end-stage kidney disease and type-2 diabetes.


Just seven weeks before Avery’s death on Dec. 31, he underwent a bypass surgery after suffering a heart attack.

Avery’s death certificate reveals that he was cremated and that his ashes were scattered at sea off the coast of L.A.
