Darrin Manning, 16, could be facing infertility. One of the teen’s testicles was ruptured following a pat down by an unnamed Philadelphia police woman. An A student at Mathematics, Civics & Sciences Charter School, Manning was going about his daily activities when the officer handcuffed him, “grabbed and squeezed and pulled down” on his testicles.
Even though he claims that he was completely innocent and the search unwarranted, Manning has been charged with resisting arrest and aggravated assault. He spent eight hours in jail. The next day, he had to have emergency surgery on his genitals. Doctors say he may never be able to father children.
He tells Philadelphia’s Fox 29, “I didn’t deserve to be wrongly stopped. They didn’t – they didn’t tell me what I did. She patted me down again, and then I felt her reach, and she grabbed my butt. And then she grabbed and squeezed again and pulled down. And that’s when I heard something pop, like I felt it pop.”
The police tell a different story. They report that when the officers approached Manning and his friends, they started running away. Manning stopped because he felt he was innocent of any wrongdoing. Officer Thomas Purcell reports Manning struck him three times and ripped off his radio. A witness says she felt the cops used excessive force based on her observation and the ratio was “all these cops and cop cars, and one kid.”
