Embattled Louisiana rapper Lil Boosie is getting closer to coming home. Boosie is reportedly now scheduled to be released from Louisiana State Penitentiary on Feb. 13, 2014. According to numerous reports, his having successfully completed a substance abuse class has helped expedite his release.
Boosie, born Torrence Hatch, has served four years in the Louisiana State Penitentiary, and was initially expected to be released last August. He was arrested in 2009 for a third-offense marijuana possession charge and violation of probation. He also awaited trial for first-degree murder charges after he allegedly ordered a hit on a 35-year-old Baton Rouge man in late 2009; and he was subsequently found not guilty of the murder charges. He was still incarcerated in 2011, when the rapper was sentenced to an additional eight years of hard labor after pleading guilty to drug charges stemming from an attempt to smuggle codeine, ecstasy, and marijuana into Angola prison.
“He has plans to go straight to the studio to begin working on an album as well as his tour,” Boosie’s brother and manager Taquari Hatch told NOLA back in December. Boosie will likely be supervised post-release by the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections. This supervision could continue for at least four more years.
