It has been recently revealed that actor Quran Pender, who starred with Queen Latifah and Danny Glover in the film The Cookout, barely missed being a target in a classic mob style hit.
Pender, 35, was almost killed in an open drug “hit” in NYC, his partner was not so lucky. Pender and his associate Brandon Woodard, 31, had been under law enforcement investigation for their role in a West and East coast cocaine ring.
According to law enforcement officials, the pair along with a third unidentified associate, shipped a total of three kilos of cocaine to a crime ring in New York. The first shipment went off well and the pair scored big with their share of the profits. On the second shipment the money was slow in reaching Pender and Woodard but eventually they were paid. The third deal, a sit-down, was supposed to happen in Manhattan. Pender for some reason did not make the trip but Woodward did and was gunned down in the street while talking on a cellphone. The murder was caught on surveillance cameras on Dec. 10, 2012.
According to an indictment filed by Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan, Pender is accused of operating his drug ring from June of 2012 until his arrest in May of 2013, in California. The former actor is in the Manhattan Detention Complex with a $500,000 bail.
