What is the name of your company and provide a description of what you do?
The Law Office of Damon D. Colbert (www.colbertlegal.com). I primarily advise municipal advisory firms and sole proprietorships that engage in municipal advisory activities on how to comply with federal securities laws and certain rules promulgated thereunder.
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
I just decided that it no longer made sense to work for someone else. I wanted the flexibility to do work that interests me. I spent several years admiring my friends and acquaintances who are successful entrepreneurs. Finally, I told myself that nothing I’m aware of suggests that I cannot be a successful entrepreneur.
Who would be considered to be an ideal client?
A client that keeps me informed of its business dealings and ensures that I know all of the historical facts I need to know in order to do my job competently, diligently, and promptly is ideal.
What makes your services unique?
I welcome the opportunity to represent one-person businesses and larger firms, and I am nimble enough to tailor my services and fees accordingly.
Please share your educational background?
I graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in 2001. Three years before that, I graduated from Davidson College with a bachelor of arts degree in Economics.
What would you share with a young person who seeks to follow in your footprints?
Sharpen your analytical and writing skills by reading good edited prose.
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
I expect my practice to be thriving and for industry participants to view me as an authority concerning the federal regulation of municipal advisors.
