Police chief: Shoot street thugs, don’t wait for police

James CraigDetroit street thugs and hood rats are now on alert. Enter into homes at your own peril.

The Motor City’s top cop has given homeowners permission to pump holes into burglars who even entertain the thought of breaking into your home, the Toledo (Ohio) Blade reports.

Detroit Police Chief James Craig’s public pronouncements were spurred by a spate of home invasions in the beleaguered city in the past week or so. At least four break-ins were reported which resulted in four homeowners shooting back and killing two assailants.

Instead of hiding and waiting for the cops to arrive, the Motor City police chief said do not call the cops first when your weapon is a more viable option. This week he warned thugs, “A lot of good Detroiters are fed up,” Craig said. “The message should be that, you know, people are going to protect themselves,” Craig advised, “Criminals in Detroit should know they shouldn’t just be afraid of the police — they should also be afraid of responsible gun owners who are prepared to defend themselves and their homes.”

The chief’s statements come on the heels of a violent episode when a Detroit woman with a concealed carry permit shot and killed a potential car jacker. In another instance that week a 17-year-old’s life was terminated when he broke into the wrong house, where the homeowner was armed and ready.
