Sheryl Lee Ralph backing off-Broadway musical ‘Mighty Real: A Fabulous Sylvester Musical’
Sheryl Lee Ralph and her organization, The D.I.V.A. Foundation, are lending their support to a play detailing the life of disco singer Sylvester. Mighty Real: A Fabulous Sylvester Musical, is a theatrical work that will touch on Sylvester’s glamorous lifestyle and style of music before his untimely death to AIDS in the ’80s.
“As we acknowledge National AIDS Awareness Day; I know Sylvester is singing and dancing under that great disco ball in heaven, and we prepare to light up Broadway with his music and memory,” said Ralph about the program.
Broadway star Anthony Wayne portrays the 1970s chanteuse alongside actresses Anastacia McCleskey and Jacqueline B. Arnold as the Weather Girls, who were also known as Two Tons o’ Fun. Celebrity stylist Kendrell Bowman serves as costume designer in the production and works alongside Wayne as a head producer of the show under AnthonyKen LLC.
Mighty Real is set to start previews Sept. 5, 2014, and opening night is Sept. 14, 2014, at New York’s Theatre at St. Clements.
Group tickets (10+) are currently on sale. Individual tickets go on sale June 2, 2014.
