Anna Bonham, a representative of the Iredell-Statesville school board in North Carolina, claims the minstrelsy racial stereotype was a tribute to superstar Serena Williams when she dressed in blackface for Halloween. She’s sporting a tennis racket, a kinky wig, a matching pink tank top and shorts portraying a ghetto booty, a brown turtleneck and her face and extremities were painted in dark chocolate makeup. Although the incident happened five years ago, the photo just surfaced in the local newspaper, Statesville Record & Landmark.
