The Female Condom
Female condoms are sheaths or linings, made of thin, soft plastic film, which fit loosely inside a woman’s vagina.
- The female condom is lubricated on the inside and outside and has flexible rings at both ends. The ring at the closed end helps insert the condom. The ring at the open end holds the edge of the condom outside the vagina.
- The female condom forms a barrier that keeps sperm from entering the vagina, preventing pregnancy and the transmission of infections.
- A woman can initiate female condom use but she needs the cooperation of her partner.
- All women can safely use female condoms.
