Burger King releases new Gay Pride Whopper

Burger King - Pride Whopper

Burger King’s motto has always been “you can have it your way” and now if you want your burger to celebrate LGBT Pride, you can have that as well because the burger giant recently unveiled their new Pride Whopper to the world.

According to the Huffington Post, Burger King just launched the “Be Your Way” campaign at a San Francisco location to coincide with the city’s annual Pride festivities. And to go along with the campaign is the launch of the Proud Whopper, which is the exact same as a regular Whopper but boasts a rainbow wrapper with the inscription “we are all the same” inside.

Burger King also documented the Proud Whopper’s release in a short film called “Be Your Way.”

We are always looking to engage our guests on a local level and be part of regionally relevant events,” said Kelly Gomez, director of West Coast field marketing, Burger King West Division, in an email statement. Since the Burger King franchise was located next to the San Francisco Pride Parade route, she added, “It was a natural fit to be involved and celebrate by giving something back to the community.”

Those living in the San Francisco area wanting to get their hands (and jaws) on the “Proud Whopper” should hurry to the Burger King restaurant located at 1200 Market St., in San Francisco because the burger goes off sale at the end of today, July 3.

Proceeds from the sales of the sandwich will be donated to the Burger King McLamore Foundation for scholarships benefiting LGBT college-bound high school students who graduate next year.

We commend Burger King on being the first of its kind to celebrate Gay Pride and we hope the Proud burger becomes available again in more locations in the future. – nicholas robinson
