4) Fans and the fighters themselves wanted the rematch

Mayweather himself talked about the rematch. “Marcos Maidana is a tough customer and he gave me a fight that had me work for the victory. His style is difficult at best, but with experience comes a way and will to win. I’m not one to give second chances in the ring, but I want to give the fans what they want to see. I will be as prepared as I always am when I step in the ring on Sept. 13. I only see the outcome one way and that’s another successful night for me and my team.”

Maidana chimed in as well. “The rematch with Mayweather is the only fight that really motivates me. I feel I earned it in the ring and Floyd owed it to me. I’ve already proved that I don’t care if the man I have in front of me is the best pound-for-pound champion. I was close to ending his reign last time. On September 13 he will not get away undefeated.”

The May 3 fight between the pair generated an estimated 900,000 pay per view buys, and this one should do even better than the first.

5) Everyone wants to see Mayweather’s first loss

Though Mayweather himself claims he doesn’t think about his undefeated record, many do, and many of his haters would love to see his first loss. Watching Maidana versus Mayweather, there was definitely the potential for an upset, and if both fighters come out and fight the same styles, the possibility remains. So who will win when Maidana, who Floyd called an MMA fighter for his “dirty” tactics in the ring, and Mayweather square off for the second time this year? We shall find out on Sept. 13, 2014.
