Why radio stations were forced to play Iggy Azalea’s ‘Fancy’ at least 150 times

Does it seem like every fourth song you hear on the radio is Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy”? Well there’s a reason.

According to a story by the Washington Post, Azalea and other artists have been the benefactors of a new program set forth by Clear Channel Radio, which is the biggest radio outlet in the country.

The program is called “On The Verge” and it was designed to help new acts get more exposure on Clear Channel’s 840 stations. Program directors from all over the country vote on a variety of songs and the winning song gets a solid commitment of being played at least 150 times on all the stations for approximately six weeks.

Azalea and her record breaking single, “Fancy,” have no doubt benefited from repeated spins and maximum exposure to Clear Channel’s 245 million monthly listeners, but the program doesn’t guarantee the same success for all artists. Tinashe’s “2 On”, Anthony Lewis’ “Candy Rain”, and Jhené Aiko’s “The Worst” have all been featured “On The Verge” songs, but have failed to duplicate Azalea’s chart domination.

Tom Poleman, president of national programming platforms for Clear Channel, says everyone wins with “On The Verge.”

“I think it’s good for everybody when we can break more artists,” says Poleman. “The listeners win; we win as a company that relies on music as our lifeblood; and our artists certainly win as well.”

Poleman insists the program is not designed to give particular artists or their labels an unfair advantage. He maintains that the acts selected are based solely on the quality of their music and not on label pressure.

HUH? do you even know what hip hop is? she is a pop star. which is fine. nothing wrong with it. secondly she has no talent. She cant sing, she dosent write. she only look nice while performing. There are a lot of people making music just like that. And its fine that they make music. but to say she is more talented the Nicki. COM ON PLEASE. I can name at least 10 female artist she couldn’t hold a wig to. Eve, Nicki, the Brat, Mc Lyte. Who wrote there own music. She has none at all. Im not a fan. But I know she makes music people like. But she is not talented. There are quite of people in the music industry I feel like that about tho. I dont mean to hate. but she is a good pop star. Not a raper. and what she makes is not hip hop.

It’s true white people are just not interested in black artist anymore. When you get a white artist, who sounds black, does the cool things black people do, of course their gonna gain more attention. But it steels the attention from black artist white people are taking over the mainstream I see that happening rnb isn’t even big anymore.

Exactly, same thing happened with Eminem too and now they’re trying to call him the King of Rap, and that’s just wrong b/c he isn’t. Also, now they’re trying to do with Justin TImberlake and Justin Bieber – and want to have the audacity to compare them to Michael Jackson. But this has been going on forever… Let’s take it back further to Marky Mark, and even further back to Elvis Presley and Fred Astaire and so forth. As Paul Mooney once said “everybody wanna be black, but nobody wanna be black” and he’s right.

Black’s still dominate Football and Basketball the 2 most popular professional sports in America. And RnB isn’t popular anymore because of a black or white issue, it’s because all the stuff coming out today is garbage compared to 10 years ago. Hell most of what is coming out today is crap, Rap isn’t as good as it used to be, Country got in this niche where it all sounds the same. All pop artists feel the need to incorporate techno, and today’s so called new “Mariah” in Ariana Grande sounds like she is whining more than she is singing. From a talent standpoint she is not even comparable to Whitney or Mariah.

Music is so bad today when you actually hear something “somewhat fresh” such as Fancy everyone goes nuts because lets face it, it’s a halfway decent song in a current genre of s**t.

I’ll still stick with my satellite raido so I don’t have to listen to any song played 150 times or 7.5 hours a day.
