The affable star of the popular 70s sitcom “Chico and the Man” was one of the first Latino superstars on a mainstream sitcom. Prinze landed the role after breakout appearances on “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson, but the Puerto Rican actor struggled constantly with depression. His wife filed for divorce in 1976, a year after they married. The split deepened his depression and on Jan. 28, 1977, Prinze shot himself in the head in front of his manager after a conversation with his estranged wife. He had signed a $6 million deal with NBC just four months prior.
