Pascagoula, Mississippi, mom Lacy Lynn received a phone call that many parents dread; her child had been injured at school. When she got to the school to check on her daughter she was shocked to see the condition of her young child’s face. Her daughter, Avalynn, was beaten so badly that her eyes were swollen and her mouth protruded from extensive bruising. Horrified, the mother asked the school what had happened and she was told that Avalynn injured herself on the playground.
However, Avalynn told her mother a different story. According to the young kindergartner, she was kicked repeatedly on the playground by another child. A statement from the Arlington Elementary School reads, “A student was injured while playing on the playground at Arlington Elementary School Tuesday afternoon. School officials responded to the situation. The parent was contacted and the student received medical treatment. No other children were involved in the incident. The Pascagoula school district remains committed to the safety of all of its children.”
Laura Lynn attempted to file a police report but the police told her that there was no indication something criminal took place. The mother feels that the police seem to be leaving the investigation up to the school. No staff member saw what happened, so no one knows the correct version. Because Avalynn’s mother had to take time off from work to care for her child the family is facing financial hardship. The family has set up a Facebook page called “Justice for Avalynn” as well as set up a “Gofundme” page to help with medical costs.
