The entire city of Philadelphia feels that way, and our first destination was no different, as we stopped by the Philadelphia African American Museum to visit curator Adrienne Whaley. Her in-depth, expert knowledge was just what we needed to gain a keen appreciation of the museum’s eye-opening Audacious Freedom exhibit.
The history lesson didn’t end there, as we visited the Betsy Ross House and came face-to-face with Betsy herself. The talented actor portraying Betsy gave Golden a tour of the house in full Ross regalia, creating a mood of revolutionary pride at the birth of a new country.
After we said our goodbyes at the Betsy Ross House, Golden suggested that we stop by one of her favorite restaurants, Philly’s Platinum Grille, to meet the owner. When we arrived at the Germantown hot spot, owner Rhonda Yancey was waiting at the door for us. As she welcomed us in, she brought out a sampling of specialty dishes for Golden to try, which ranged from shrimp and grits to her world-famous seafood chowder.
With our stomachs full and our hearts overflowing with Philly love, it was time to end this successful leg of our Creative Travel journey. As we pulled back up to 30th Street Station, Golden looked back at the team, and inquired, “How do you feel about Los Angeles?”
L.A. it is, then.
