Mixtape Mondays: Big K.R.I.T. ‘See Me On Top 4’

“NOW they wanna hear a country n—- rap/ 5 albums in and they swear a country n—- snapped/ Thought they wanted gold, thought they wanted shine, thought they wanted radio/ B—- make up your mind!”

From the sounds of his new mixtape See Me On Top 4, Big K.R.I.T. is feeling a tad underappreciated, and rightfully so. Ever since his critically acclaimed 2010 effort K.R.I.T. Wuz Here, the Mississippi emcee has yo-yo’ed up and down fickle fans’ list of emcees from the south next up to blow. On SMOT4, K.R.I.T. looks to end all speculation and declare that he is indeed among the elite emcees in the game today.

Taking a step back from his previous approach of essentially releasing free albums as mixtapes, K.R.I.T. takes it back to true mixtape form and remixes some songs he likes by adding his vocals and just plain old jacking for beats. The result is a fast paced collection that keeps the listener engaged despite the 22 song tracklisting.

Standout tracks include “Mt. Olympus,” “Believe Me” freestyle, and “Never Going Back.”
