The virus is airborne
With the news of Ebola affecting and killing a man in Dallas and then symptoms being discovered in a nurse who helped treat the man, there has been growing speculation that the virus is actually airborne. Phony emails have also surfaced claiming to have “proof” that the Ebola virus has mutated and the CDC is lying about it’s nature. Despite reports that the CDC has “been forced to admit” the virus is airborne, the World Health Organization issued a statement that said that Ebola can be transmitted via “virus-laden heavy droplets [that] are directly propelled, by coughing or sneezing (which does not mean airborne transmission) onto the mucus membranes or skin with cuts or abrasions of another person.” The WHO also stated that “all cases were infected by direct close contact with symptomatic patients.”
So, while an airborne Ebola virus is theoretically possible, it has not occurred yet and is a relatively low concern for those working to fight the disease.
