Meet the lucky woman awarded nearly $1 billion in divorce settlement

Oil tycoon Harold Hamm, CEO of Continental Resources, was ordered by an Oklahoma County judge to hand over close to $1 billion to his ex-wife, Sue Ann Hamm, in a divorce settlement.

Special Judge Howard Haralson found that Harold, 68, should pay Sue Ann a record-breaking total of $995.5 million, with about a third of the funds, or $322.7 million, to be paid by the end of the year.


In 2012, Forbes named him the 30th richest person in the U.S. and 76th richest person in the world. His fortune is estimated at $14 billion today.

Sue Ann received $25 million in 2012 when the divorce was filed. Once the initial payout is made this year, Sue Ann will receive the remainder of the judgement in $7 million monthly installments.


Sue Ann married Harold in 1988. Listen up ladies, she never signed a prenuptial agreement. Harold had already started racking up the dough when they married, the company’s estimated worth was $50 million. While they were married, the net worth grew to $20 billion. It’s one of Oklahoma’s largest companies.

Sue Ann’s legal team believes she’s entitled to $17 billion of  his assets and they contend there has been “active” appreciation since 1988, which is subject to “equitable distribution,” under Oklahoma law.
