Former NBA coach and player John Lucas hosted the annual Tournament of Champions celebrity golf event at Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston. “The Tournament of Champions is a great way for people to learn more about what we do, play golf with a few sports legends and community stars, while at the same time, donating to the foundation,” said  Lucas.

NBA Hall of Fame inductee Julius “Dr. J” Erving and former Houston Rocket Vernon Maxwell, served as chairs for the event. Other retired NBA players such as Mario Ellie, Moochie Norris, Calvin Murphy, Moses Malone, Major Jones; and former Globetrotters Reggie Dixon and Howard Smith; and several others will play on one of the four-person scramble golf tournament teams.

The John Lucas Foundation was founded in March 2011 and nonprofit that offers aftercare, wellness programs, recovery support, physical rehabilitation, coaching, mentoring, healthy lifestyles programming, and drug and alcohol prevention programs. The foundation also provides leadership development and financial support for youth through partnerships with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department in support of “Basketball and Beyond,” a program to revitalize basketball, life skills, wellness and leadership at their more than 20 facilities. Through Foundation resources, Lucas has provided a program for more than 1,000 children and youth in the last two years. In January 2015 he will host the Fonde Games. It is an invitational that features the best high school basketball players in the Houston metro area.
