As we prepare to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, it’s a good time to explore the man beyond the myth, the protest marches, and the end of segregation. As the movie Selma touches on briefly, Dr. King was a complex man living during complex times, with a complex point of view and a complicated home and personal life. His views on Black empowerment evolved over the years, and he was far from the warm and fuzzy man that we too often learn about in documentaries and school textbooks. This video provides what some might call a more empowered perspective regarding the Black cause in America and throughout the diaspora.
