Many elements of the mainstream media downplayed a recent three-state crime spree by a couple dubbed the teen Bonnie and Clyde. The pair are identified as Dalton Hayes, 18, and his 13-year-old girlfriend, Cheyenne Phillips. The pair started their crime spree by stealing a pickup truck in Kentucky then traveled to South Carolina and Georgia. Along the way the pair forged checks and stole more cars and handguns.
The family of Hayes pleaded with the pair to turn themselves in to police, because they were fearful of a violent end to the crime spree. On Sunday, all fears were resolved when the pair was finally arrested by police without incident. The couple was found sleeping in a stolen pickup truck on a beach in Panama City, Florida. The pair will be extradited to Kentucky to face multiple felony charges for their actions; Hayes was taken to the Bay County Jail and Phillips has been placed in the care of the Florida Department of Children and Families.
