Former “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno commented on the rape allegations made against funnyman Bill Cosby. While some close to Cosby, including former cast mate Phylicia Rashād have rushed to his defense claiming that the allegations are an attempt to destroy the comedian’s legacy, Leno cautions critics to consider the severity of the alleged crimes and not make assumptions about the women.
During a Q-and-A session on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at the NAPTE conference in Miami, Leno spoke about the Cosby controversy with Tom Papa, saying “I don’t know why it’s so hard to believe women,” Variety reports.
“You go to Saudi Arabia and you need two women to testify against a man,” he added. “Here you need 25.”
The rape allegations against Cosby were thrust back into the spotlight when comedian Hannibal Burress audaciously called the TV star a rapist during one of his stand-up performances (which became a viral video).
“On any other media that would have been edited,” said Leno. “People are getting news unfiltered now” — something Leno believes to be a good thing.
Cosby and his attorney have consistently denied the claims of sexual abuse. Additionally, the “Cosby Show” patriarch has never been criminally charged.
So does Leno have a point? Should Cosby have been charged? Why is it so hard for us believe the women who are making these horrific claims against the legendary comedian?
