Jada Pinkett Smith dropped a bomb, that she’ll be leaving FOX’s hit new show, “Gotham.’
On Friday, Smith, known to fans as Fish Mooney, 43, revealed on “Live with Kelly and Michael” that she doesn’t think she’ll be reprising her role as a hotheaded nightclub owner in season two.
“I signed for a year, and the year is up,” she told the hosts. “But, there are some great things coming ahead on Gotham – believe you me, there’s a lot of good stuff coming.”
She says she still loves playing the villain, who was one of the new character additions to DC Comics’ Batman universe. “It definitely has been a real creative joy to have this opportunity to help create this character,” Smith told PEOPLE last month. “Fish really gives Jada an opportunity to get into some stuff that Jada wouldn’t and express herself in a way that Jada wouldn’t. Fish goes for it, and I love that about her.”
While she may be leaving the show, Smith has much in store before retiring her ruthless ways. “Fish Mooney’s storyline takes a lot of interesting twists and turns into the finale of season one of Gotham,” Fox said in a statement.
But can “Gotham” survive with the absence of one of its star characters? Only time will tell. One th ing’s for sure … Fish Mooney will be missed. If you ask us, the juicy drama between Mooney and the Penguin is what made the action spin-off a hit. Will you still be watching?
