Some busy mothers pride themselves on their ability to multitask. However, one Florida mom needs a lesson on multitasking and driving responsibly. Police pulled over Cateria Thomas, 33, for an altered tag in New Smyrna Beach and discovered a rather bizarre and dangerous situation. Apparently, Thomas was breast-feeding her 2-month-old infant while driving, with her other children, ages 1, 3 and 4 in the backseat.
To make matters worse, Thomas was drunk and a full can of gas was in the passenger’s seat. When police questioned her, she was observed to have red and watery eyes and was unsteady as she failed a field sobriety test. The excuse she gave to the cops was that she had just eaten four hamburgers with whiskey on them. The drunk mom was arrested and charged with several crimes, including DUI, operating with a suspended, canceled, or revoked license, and unlawful alteration of her car tag. She also faces child endangerment charges that include acts that could result in physical or mental injury to her four children. The children were taken into custody by the Florida Department of Children and Families while the agency is attempting to find family members who can care for them. According to law enforcement records, Thomas has been arrested four times since 2003 on charges that included child abuse, battery, burglary and third-degree grand theft.
