‘Black or White’ examines how to bypass race to make alliances

In the age of Obama, it would be fair to assume that America has evolved into a true post-racial society. Sadly, that’s not the case, as color is still one of the first things seen and used to judge people. The Kevin Costner-led Black or White adeptly brings this harsh reality to light.

As the fight for custody over a biracial child brews in the courtroom, the dueling grandparents — expertly played by Costner and Academy Award-winning actress Octavia Spencer — fight their own demons, both personal and familial.

While the tears may flow by the film’s conclusion, the heart is sure to smile at the poignancy of this Mike Binder-penned script.
