AAFCA Commits to Honor Prominent Names Behind-the-Scenes in Entertainment at SYNERGY

SYNERGY is where the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) will honor Swirl Entertainment Group executives. This year’s honorees, Eric Tomosunas and Brett Dismuke, will be recognized at the organization’s 4th annual Atlanta reception. The Swirl Entertainment Group is known for its independent films (35 & Ticking, Church Girl and 24-Hour Love). The production company has contributed widely to the growth of the cinema community throughout the Southeast. Tomosunas founded Swirl Films in 2008 and has since produced more than 40 original productions.

Previous award recipients include Tirrell Whitley and Nick Nelson, principal partners at Liquid Soul Media (2012); Charles Humbard, CEO of UPTV (2013); and filmmaker Roger Bobb (2014). The award will be formally presented during AAFCA’s invitation-only SYNERGY-ATL reception on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at Northern Trust in Atlanta’s Buckhead area.

“We are thrilled to present our 4th annual event in the Atlanta market,” says AAFCA’s founder and president Gil Robertson on the Swirl Entertainment Group honor. “The city has grown into a significant player in the world of TV and film production. Through SYNERGY we salute the people who are making this happen. Our goal is to create an atmosphere where entertainment professionals in this region can meet, mix and mingle with their peers to plant the seeds of opportunity for themselves and others.”

AAFCA set a goal in 2014 to expand its industry presence with a collection of distinctive events. By the end of awards season, AAFCA succeeded on all levels. They honored some of the most prominent names in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes in entertainment.

AAFCA celebrated the end of awards season with a lavish Academy Awards Viewing Party with Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA). It attracted a diverse group of celebrities and industry executives. “Award season never gets old and once again provided a whirlwind of activities that allowed the professionals, who work so hard in this industry, an opportunity to connect with their peers,” says Robertson. “AAFCA feels very privileged to participate in this tradition and add our distinctive flavor into the mix.”

AAFCA is the premiere African American film critics association in the United States. Its membership is comprised of the nation’s leading black film journalists. The organization produces the AAFCA EXPERIENCE, a three-day event that culminates with the AAFCA Awards annually during the Hollywood Awards Season. SYNERGY is another signature event created to recognize the growing film community in the Southeast.
