Wyclef Jean serenades crowd at Surfcomber with ‘Killin Me Softly’
The 11th Annual Irie Weekend kicked off in style Thursday night in the heart of South Beach. The renovated art-deco Surfcomber hotel hosted the Hublot VIP Kickoff party, which featured complimentary Korbel champagne, celebrity appearances and a VIP concert by The Fugees’ very own Wyclef Jean.
Natalie La Rose, Omar Benson, and Fat Joe were just a few of the stars spotted there on the sandy carpet all in support of the Irie Foundation.

But leave it to Wyclef to really bring the heat, spice things up and get the party started. Not only did he take it back with a little Fugees “Killin’ Me Softly,” he also serenaded DJ Irie with a guitar solo for his birthday and then later ran through the crowd and climbed up a stage pole asking the crowd and media to “drop your cameras and shake it.” It was a night full of dancing, good times and giving back.
If you’d like to attend one of the events, you still have time. Tickets are still available.
Irie Weekend raises money for the Irie Foundation, which is an organization that helps empower at-risk youth through mentorship programs, cultural experiences and scholarship opportunities.
