A 22-year-old Spring Valley, NY mother was arrested for tying her son to a bush in the Blueberry Hill Complex before going to work.

According to the ABC7 Eyewitness News team, the mother, Mery Isabel Quinde-Castro, had a babysitting job in her apartment complex; however, her 4-year-old just completed pre-school, so he was home on school break. When it was time for the mom to report to the home of the child she was hired to babysit, she found herself with no babysitter herself. She didn’t want the family to know she had her 4-year-old child with her, so she opted to tie him to a bush with the harness attached to his backpack so he wouldn’t run around the complex.

A resident happend to call 911 at 9 a.m. when the child was spotted and another apartment complex worker spotted the boy tied to the tree, as well.

According to Quinde-Castro’s sister who posted the $2500 bail for Quinde-Castro, she is a “great mom” and this is a “misunderstanding.”

In defense for her actions, the mother pleaded the following to the police department: “The mother is saying that the child was only tied out there for about 10 minutes,” Spring Valley Police Chief Paul Modica said. “Regardless, 10 minutes or 10 seconds, our investigation is leaning closer to more than a half hour, 45 minutes that that child was out there.”

The mom was later charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
