During a recent episode of “Watch What Happens Live,” Cohen sat down with guests Laverne Cox and Andre Leon Talley and announced on camera that he’d named Stenberg’s comments on appropriation the “Jackhole” of the day.
“Today’s Jackhole goes to the Instagram feud between Kyie Jenner and Hunger Games star/Jaden Smith’s prom date Amandla Stenberg who criticized Kylie for her cornrows, calling it cultural appropriation. White girls in cornrows … s it OK or nay Laverne and Andre?”
Sadly and disappointingly, neither Talley nor Cox came to Stenberg’s defense.
“To me it’s fine,” Talley replied.
“Umm … .Bo Derek,” Cox responded
Let’s keep in mind that Stenberg is still a 16-year-old Black girl and that she was just dubbed “Jackhole of the Day” by a White man of prominence for shedding light on the cultural appropriation she sees in the world.
It’s sad when our youth are attacked for expressing themselves and voicing their observations of the world, it’s perhaps even sadder when their Black elders don’t come to their defense.
