DMX goes to jail… again…
On July 14, the rapper was sentenced to six months in prison after failing to pay $400,000 in child support. The 44-year-old rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was placed in the Erie County holding center in Buffalo, New York, on Tuesday, according to the Erie County sheriff’s office.
According to local broadcaster WIVB, DMX was arrested on June 26, before a performance at Radio City Music Hall, for “a history of crime in Erie County, including child support and traffic violations.” Other “outstanding issues” included a robbery complaint in Newark, New Jersey – for which no charges were filed – and a warrant for jumping bail in White Plains, New York.
This isn’t the first time the Ruff Ryder has had a run-in with the law. In fact, DMX has served several spells in prison for offenses including possession of drugs, animal cruelty, parole violation, driving without a license and driving under the influence of alcohol. A close friend of the 44-year-old recording artist sounded off on the arrest via Twitter:
In the late ’90s, DMX was one of hip-hop’s biggest stars. His first five albums topped the US charts. His most recent album, Undisputed (2012), reached No. 19 in the US. In 2013, it appeared that the rapper was ready to face the demons that have uprooted his career when he agreed to appear alongside his son on OWN’s “Iyanla: Fix My life.” Unfortunately, the episode backfired, only causing a further rift between DMX and his son.
The rapper will spend his latest incarceration in upstate New York.
