Baddddd Sonia Sanchez
Maya Angelou said, “Sonia Sanchez is a lion in literature’s forest. When she writes, she roars.” The prodigious Sanchez has been on the front lines of art and activism for over 50 years — teaching, writing, performing, protesting. She was a pioneer of the Black Arts Movement, fought to found the first Black studies program, and, with her street-wise poetry, exerted a widely acknowledged influence on the hip-hop and spoken word movements. This full-access documentary portrait captures the breadth of Sanchez’s rich and often unsettled life, while her verse is revered and recited by such admirers as Nikki Giovanni, Ruby Dee, Talib Kweli, Byronn Bain and Questlove.
