R&B superstar Ciara is known for her athletic physique, but after gave birth to her 1-year-old son, Future Zahir, she gained about 60 pounds. As we’ve seen in her newest video for her song “Dance Like We’re Making Love,” she is back in shape, but how did she do it?
“Once I got back into it, I worked out two or three times daily,” the 29-year-old singer and dancer said in the upcoming issue of Shape magazine.
While she was pregnant, she was engaged to recording artist Future, but the two broke off their engagement in September of 2014, months before their son was born.
Ciara said that she had a huge appetite both during her pregnancy and right after she gave birth. “I indulged in all the good food the world has to offer. After he was born — when I couldn’t exercise yet — I kept eating, and I gained 60 pounds. But as soon as the doctor said I could start training again, I was on the treadmill the very next day,” she said.
The “I Bet” singer shares the same trainer as the Kardashians — Gunner Peterson. She said they would do an “hourlong plyometric cardio circuit using boxing elements,” which she explains as a “three-in-one training: It’s hitting your muscles; it’s a cardiovascular workout; and it’s a mental exercise.”
In addition to that, she would get a cardio session in. But healthier eating was a huge part of her regimen as well.
Water helped her shed pounds quickly, too. She reminded herself that “water is my medicine and that to stay well, I have to drink a gallon of it every day.”
Ciara dropped the weight in four months, and added that while eating healthy and working out played a vital role in losing weight, the words she used were just as important.
“I truly believe that if you put your goals in writing, speak them out loud, and work for them, they will happen,” she said.
