With the passing of Larry “Doc” Elliot, our community has lost a positive voice from the airwaves of many popular radio stations around the country. Doc died on Aug. 13, just five days shy of his birthday in hospice care in his birth state of Mississippi. He was blessed to transition with his family by his side.
I had the personal pleasure of knowing Doc for close to 20 years, and he was always one of the most positive and brightest spirits that you’d ever find and just being in his presence always made me feel good no matter what else was going on.
His daughter, Shelarri Anderson, issued a statement saying, “Unfortunately as many of you may know, LARRY ‘DOC’ ELLIOTT, also known as LARRY O’ JAY to his listeners, but simply as “Dad” to me has endured some severe medical complications this past year and has been under hospice care for the past few months. My father’s voice has been morning alarms, PM drive guides, and mellowing moods for the past 40 years. His bubbly spirit and loving personality has touched many from as far west as San Francisco. CA (KBLX) to as far east as Washington, DC (WHUR) and many cities in between .. .Milwaukee, WI (WAWA), Detroit, MI (WJZZ) (WJLB), Atlanta, GA (WVEE and WALR). To assist the family in planning memorial services, final resting arrangements, and to alleviate some of the medical financial responsibilities this fund has been created. If anyone may have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me, [email protected]. Thanks in advance. Each and every contribution would be greatly appreciated.” GOFUNDME.
Services will be held this Saturday, Aug. 22 at 11 a.m. at Mt Calvary Baptist church, Louisville, Mississippi.
