Protests that erupted following the many deaths of unarmed Black people in 2014 spawned art exhibits around the country that displayed photos of powerful moments and significant items from the demonstrations. Another moving exhibit from a protest, specifically a Black Lives Matter gathering that took place in December in South Florida, will soon be welcoming those interested in viewing the determination and heart that was prevalent during that march for justice.
No More Blues photography art exhibit, presented by The Black Archives History & Research Foundation of South Florida Inc., will feature photos illuminated in blue captured by Cendino Temé, a Haitian photographer from Miami. He snapped the pictures at the peaceful protest that occurred on I-95 at South Florida’s popular event, Art Basel, in December 2014.
The images are meant to remind viewers of the importance message held by the protesters’ march, which was that Black lives are valuable and should matter everywhere. The display may also encourage some viewers to join the movement and fight for the justice of Black citizens who continue to be gunned down or unfairly targeted in this country.
No More Blues begins Friday, Aug. 28, 2015, at the Historic Ward Room House Gallery and will run through December 2015. The exhibit is open Tuesday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
