Lovers of the skateboarding culture came out to the grand opening of The Status Life Saturday afternoon. The skateboarding boutique is located on Walker Street in Atlanta and is completely owned by famed skateboarder Stevie Williams.
As the founder of Dirty Ghetto Kids (DGK) skateboarding company, Williams said he wanted to open a shop dedicated to young skaters in the area, since the culture is seldom catered to by local retailers.
“We’re in the perfect area to build something cool, something new for kids and for the community,” Williams said.
The miniature shop sells everything a skater would need to give their style an upgrade — artistic boards, sporty shoes and attire, backpacks, and even jewelry. DGK items and Williams’ clothing line, Asphalt Yacht Club, are sold at The Status Life.
The general manager and longtime friend/skate partner of Williams’, Pat Washington, described the spot as a clean-cut boutique similar to the style of SoHo.
Angela Yee of Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club stopped by to show love to Williams, along with Sarah ViVan, a radio personality who has a son with rapper Lil Wayne.
“Stevie’s a friend of mine,” ViVan said. “He’s a great forward thinker for our culture.”
