On “Empire,” Terrence Howard’s character of Lucious Lyon has many problems with the ladies in his life. But it also seems art is imitating a dark slice of Howard’s life because the actor has been plagued by reports and accusations of domestic violence by his ex-wives for years. Now, in a new interview with Rolling Stone, Howard reportedly admits to hitting his wives in some very candid revelations.

In the interview, Howard opens up about a 2001 incident with his first wife, in which a police report claimed he had “punched her twice with a closed fist.” Howard ended up pleading guilty to disorderly conducting and he admits to Rolling Stone that he did indeed hit her.

“She was talking to me real strong, and I lost my mind and slapped her in front of the kids,” he says. “Her lawyer said it was a closed fist, but even slapping her was wrong.”

Howard also spoke about his recent ex-wife, Michelle Ghent, who has accused Howard of abusing her and was photographed after a 2013 trip to Costa Rica with Howard sporting a black eye. Although Howard has previously denied her claims that he was the reason for the black eye, in the interview he explains that he may have unintentionally hit her.

“She was trying to Mace me,” he said, “and you can’t see anything so all you can do is try to bat somebody away, and I think that something caught her. But I wasn’t trying to hit her.”

Well, this interview certainly isn’t helping Howard’s personal image. Considering how bad press and a bad reputation nearly ruined his career in the past, perhaps he shouldn’t be so candid with the press.
