Teenage action adventure Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials outpaced Johnny Depp’s gangster flick Black Mass to capture this weekend’s box office crown.

Maze Runner, a follow-up to the 2014 original, earned an estimated $30.3 million in its opening week while Depp’s Black Mass, a semi-biopic on notorious mobster James “Whitey” Bulger, managed to pull in $23.3 million. Falling one notch from second to third this week is the horror film, The Visit, which brought in an additional $11.3 million. Last week’s No. 1 movie, The Perfect Guy, starring Sanaa Lathan, Michael Ealy, and Morris Chestnut, fell three notches earning just under $10 million. And rounding out the top five is the mountain climbing action thriller Everest, which bowed with a modest $7.5 million.
