Wu-Tang Clan maestro RZA has been locked in to direct an upcoming action thriller titled Breakout.
The movie, written by Richard D’Ovidio and produced by Amasia Entertainment, will center around a young photographer falsely accused of and arrested for drug trafficking in Bangladesh. His powerful father calls on two knowledgeable old friends to spring his son from jail and bring the truth to light.
The film will mark a reunion for RZA and Amasia, who previously worked together on the Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick vehicle, Mr. Right.
“The multitalented RZA has mastered the art of music, acting and filmmaking,” said Amasia execs Bradley Gallo and Michael Helfant. “We are ecstatic to have him behind the camera on our next project as he brings a fresh and innovative take to this international action thriller from Rich D’Ovidio.”
Breakout will serve as RZA’s third time in the director’s chair. He previously called the shots for 2011’s The Man With the Iron Fists and the recently wrapped Coco, which stars Azealia Banks, Common, Jill Scott, Hana Mae Lee and John David Washington, and is scheduled to be released in March of 2016.
Breakout will begin filming in early 2016.
