Darnell R. Jones found his passion after leaving the Sacramento Kings after multiple surgeries. He is the founder and CEO of Powerhandz Inc, which creates skill development products for athletes. This is their second year in business. His commitment is to help other athletes reach their potential in their respective sport.
What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?
Many things have inspired me to be an entrepreneur. However, one of the initial influences is a mentor and sponsor of mine who has grown several businesses into successful and profitable [enterprises]. I was fortunate enough to work with him on two of these successful ventures and the process of starting something from nothing and turning it into something of significant value is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.
How would you describe your product?
Our products are sports training products used to enhance skill development. Our premier product is a weighted glove in several iterations: one version is our weighted anti grip gloves used to decrease dexterity and increase weight resistance on the hands and upper body.
What has been the most challenging part of being an entrepreneur?
I would say the most challenging part of being an entrepreneur is being able to weather the storm when things don’t go as planned regardless of how fast you think something will happen or how much it may cost, it always ends up costing more and taking longer. Another one of the most challenging parts of being an entrepreneur is the pressure associated with the risk you take in moving forward with an idea. The success or failure of your company depends solely on you and the team you surround yourself with.
What have you found to be the most rewarding part of being and entrepreneur?
I would say the most rewarding part of being an entrepreneur is having people see value in something you created or the service you provide.

Where do you see your business in the next five years?
Well we’ve already sold POWERHANDZ products in over 50 countries, so I would increase that number to over 150 countries, our products are also currently used by more15 different professional sports teams, so I would like to increase that number to over 30 professional sports team and last but not least I would like our products to be on the shelves of every major retailer in the US.
